Holistic-Minded Exericise

by Sam Suska

Holistic-minded exercise is a vital component of holistic self-care; without it one cannot reach their potential and obtain true health. Holistic-minded exercise incorporates mind and body while importantly promoting the optimal states of the body. Alkaline pH and balanced 'energy' flow are the states in which the body is intended to operate; however simply moving and breathing can 'stress' the body and oppose this intended state. These basic functions will only temporarily 'stress' the body when performed in a holistic-minded fashion, and over time the body will become more efficient.

Improving the efficiency of the body is a principle focus of the individualized holistic exercise plan provided to you in the upcoming book, "The True Health Lifestyle: Guide for Holistic Self-Care". The mind cannot "drift" off during exercise or oppose it, maintaining a positive outlook is a key to making holistic-minded exercise a lasting part of your life. So the mind needs to always "buy" into what you're doing, as holistic exercise serves the greater purpose of improving body function and health as a whole.

"The True Health Lifestyle: Guide for Holistic Self-Care" constantly interacts with the reader and uses questionnaire's to determine each person's individualized plan of holistic self-care. The holistic self-care plan is broken down into a basic living plan, a nutrition plan and an exercise plan. These subdivisions of holistic self-care desire balanced attention just like our mind, body and spirit need, so we cannot short-change any of these aspects.

Exercise is the most often overlooked aspect of holistic self-care; and also the most incorrectly understood aspect of many people's so-called "healthy" lifestyles. Exercise 'stresses' the body by creating acids which challenge the intended states of alkaline pH and balanced 'energy' flow. As a result when exercise does not have a holistic-minded focus it can become a 'stressor' to the individual with the costs (acids) outweighing the benefits (efficiency of whole body).

Without an individualized holistic exercise plan it is quite easy for even the most fitness knowledgeable person to perform exercise which does not support the intended state of the body and 'stress' themselves. The body is quite amazing and can perform a multitude of functions to preserve the intended state of the body which are best classified as part of the alkalizing buffering system or the elimination system. These systems create much of what people realize as the "side effects" of exercise like water retention, joint inflammation and muscle soreness; these are actually preserving the intended states of the body.

It is natural and expected to experience these "side effects" of exercise, but only to a certain point and certainly not for ongoing periods of time. Exercise can be a powerful 'stressor' when not holistic-minded, this helps explains why many dedicated athletes develop chronic diseases despite following workout regimens (though diet is more influential). Holistic-minded exercise plans are designed to promote the alkaline pH and balanced 'energy' flow of the body with regular time efficient workouts.

Time efficiency, individual needs and the order of exercises play the greatest roles in making exercise more beneficial (efficient body) than costly (acids). The individual needs include muscle balance and VO2 capailities which are further explained in the forthcoming text "The True Health Lifestyle: Guide for Holistic Self-Care". Muscle balance is needed between separate, opposing core muscles (medial/lateral balance) as well as between muscles of the front of the body and the rear of the body (anterior/posterior balance). The efficiency in which the body uses oxygen determines the VO2 capabilities and plays a powerful role in determining overall function of the body.

Holistic-minded exercise supports the individual needs of the person in a time efficient manner with workouts designed in a specific order which directly targets certain needs while also helping the body minimize the costs (acids) and promote the benefits (body efficiency like removal of acids). A regular commitment of about an hour to exercise the body in an intelligent manner is the most basic need for this aspect of holistic self-care. Once this becomes consistent you can truly impact the health and function of your whole 'being' by addressing the body and focusing the mind.

Holistic exercise plans consists of individualized balanced between cardio, flexibility and resistance training. With the specific types of exercises or movements also being highly individualized, as what is beneficial for one person may not be so necessary for another. The order of exercises and intensity of the exercises is also entirely individualized and can be determined in the upcoming book "The True Health Lifestyle: Guide for Holistic Self-Care".

The nutrition before and after your holistic workouts is also quite influential and can vary based on your individual needs but with the underlying emphasis to return the body to alkaline pH with balanced 'energy' flow. Simply fueling the body with concentrated 'energy' an hour prior to working out by drinking a green vegetable juice (of kale, celery, cucumber, spinach, etc.) or green smoothie (of chard, kale, avocado, cilantro, almond milk, etc.) can really help maintain the intended state of the body.

Following the workout with immediate supplementation of aluminum-free baking soda and concentrated antioxidants can play a great role in minimizing the cost (acids) of exercising. Both are quite affordable and much more practical and health-promoting than the typical post-workout drink consisting of dairy protein like whey mixed with a variety of added chemicals. This immediate supplementation can be followed by a hemp protein drink or a holistic nutrition meal; please refer to my past blogs or e-mail me at truehealthservices@gmail.com for details on where to get these products or what a holistic nutrition meal consists of.

To get started on your holistic-minded exercise plan today you can make some easy changes in addition to pre and post-workout nutrition by simply reaching a solid balance to your workouts in a time efficient manner. The first step is to arrange your workout by starting with 5 to 10 minutes of light cardio followed by 5 to 10 minutes of fully stretching all of your body, not just the muscle you plan to focus on. 10 to 20 minutes of full body exercises (like squat and press or kettlebell swings) is next to be immediately complemented with exercises that focus on one body area (like lunges or pull-ups) for another 10 to 20 minutes.

Ending the workout with at least 15 minutes of moderate intensity cardio is key to helping promote elimination of the acids created by the exercises. Follow this with another 5 to 10 minutes of full body stretching and a holistic-minded workout is complete. For more information you can directly contact me at truehealthservices@gmail.com. I am presently employed as a personal trainer and have a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, so I am very much involved in the exercise realm of holistic self-care on a regular basis. I am quite willing and able to answer whatever questions you may have. Take care and give yourself balanced, loving care and attention for the new year.
